Are people becoming more hurtful and more likely to be abusive or just simply mean to others on social media platforms?

By Sam . Created on 09 Sep, 2019
With the ease of access to the internet it appears people are now more likely than ever to be openly rude, mean or abusive to others online in response to someone's post or opinion. It often seems excessive in reaction and not something you'd expect someone to do in person to another, especially a stranger.

Yes people are aggressive on social media. I beleive it is because of the remoteness of the person, they cant see the people reading their post, they cant see the effect so to get a reaction people speak their mind. HONESTY.

That what I see is that on Social media people are MORE honest about ...

G thanks for your message again. Nothing more to add to this very in depth answer. My sentiments entirely. Well said and thanks for putting it into words. Take care. B.

More honest? Maybe. But also less time spent in thought, about how our words can hurt. I understand that tact is sometimes being PC, but sometimes it is also being kind. Fine line between too much tact and too little.

I think it's akin to road rage. Once we have avatars, and aren't looking at people in the face, our primal instinct to beware of worthy foes doesn't intervene, and suddenly everyone is up for a serving of our RAGE! We are opportunistic by nature, so why would we back down if there is no direct threat?
In short, yes we are becoming crueler - but only because there is les...

Costas thank you for your message and I could't agree more. Indeed with the lack of face to face now being the norm it is becoming crueler with people interactions. Take care and enjoy your day. B.

Some people are more prone to rudeness when they can sit back and not look the person in the eye. Equally it is easier to not know when someone is kidding around when you can not see the grin on their face. Lets all start talking to people face to face, and spend less time on-line.

Yes, agree with everyone. People are simply more sensitive and Facebook does not help. People have too much to say and they love to riot.

People are simply more sensitive and quick to become offended today than previous generations.

The people that I 'have' to deal with just want things their own way and they don't care who they hurt to get it. NOT EVERYBODY, but most!

I think also it's easier for someone to attach another online. You don't have to leave the house. Some are that anxious that leaving the house is no option
