this is the new normal. Until our self serving (global) politicians start thinking about the planet as a whole, we will have more like covid and many other disasters and nasties to contend with. Get used to it.

Totally agree with the need for all governments worldwide to think global on health related matters.

Hopeful, yes but in reality we are going to be stuck with it well into the future and life as we knew it is unlikely to return

We are stuck with this. And many more to come. Like many other diseases we will need to rely on vaccines to control it. Now we just need to get everyone to have it.

I'm sure many aspects of our lives will never quite return to normal, particularly here in Victoria. I'm an avid fan of the AFL and the Boxing Day cricket test but I cannot see myself attending those sorts of events for a long time to come, if ever. Social distancing and self-isolation rules have become so deeply ingrained as to become 2nd nature. It will take a long time to break free of that!
