As the Federal Government were negligent for more than 800 deaths of Aged Care Residents in Victoria during Covid, should there be a Royal Commission to find why no plans were in place back in March?

By Grace . Created on 17 Nov, 2020
Regardless of how the spread began in Victoria, the Federal Government are responsible for the Aged Care Sector and should have had a full Covid-19 plan in place in March for all Aged Care Facilites across Australia to follow, but this was not the case, whiich ended up causing the deaths of more than 800 elderly aged care residents and affecting their loved family & friends.

Royal commissions should be an option of last resort. There are so many government, semi-government agencies and supervisory agencies under Commonwealth, State and Local government jurisdiction its about time their terms of reference were tightened up, the numbers rationalised and they actual started to fulfil the role and responsibilities and be adequately funded and skilled to undertake what that were s...

What's the point. Like all the RC's - too expensive, no results, so solutions and an excuse to "Blame" - too late. Get on with the present.

Sadly I think you will find that all places actually had policies and procedures in place for contagious diseases. However, due to the nature of covid and the initial appearance of it being a common cold or flu and the problem that it is so easily spread with the additional problem of people being so close to each other I doubt anyone could have really prevented it's spread. Adding to this people also have to f...

Interestingly enough, latest research, has come up with. If everyone gargles alcohol based Mouthwash daily they will kill any Covid germs in their mouths and be OK. So simple fix get everyone in aged care gargling. Not trying to be sarcastic. Just surprised.

Oops told my mother about the mouthwash. Now we know why when there is a lockdown, there is a rush on the Liquor stores. If you have to gargle alcohol, might as well be the good stuff. Inherited a warped sence of humour.

The aged care residents were being looked after by Victoria's aged care system, so the blame lies with the premier of that state, not the federal govt, and not all were govt. run centres, some were for profit centres, some were health fund run centres, they're all to be held accountable, but nothing will be done or change unless there is legislation to enforce change. ...

An awkward one, Nursing homes should have had policies and procedures in place for contagious medical conditions.

Thanks for your message Glenys and indeed it is an awkward one. One would have thought with the Aged Care Royal Commission just done this would be so true but unfortunately, I feel, they were unprepared for this virus, As Mrs has said hindsight is a wonderful thing. In saying this I would like to know how many in the nursing homes were caused through this virus as many would have had underlying conditions. Sti...

What you say B about Covid latching on to those with existing conditions and taking advantage of those conditions to kill is so true. Worldwide those who are dying are more likely to have existing conditions. Yes they would probably have passed sooner regardless. But still making things very hard on the families.

No I agree with Mrs hindsight is a wonderful thing. I feel that our country has been spared so much heartache however as far as Victoria goes I feel it is up to the Premier of the state and that lies at the feet of Premier Andrews.

The government is not to blame , but full blame is the Victorian government who made a mess of everything and tried to cover it up Premier Andrews and his minister are a disgrace and should resign

The leaders of every country in the world should have gone into full lockdown on 1-3-20 But hindsight is a marvellous thing. If we had had hindsight at the beginning this would all be over now.
