Do you notice when companies downsize the weight or size of a grocery item & keep the same price or put the price up?

This is happening all the time & I'm sure these companies think we are stupid & don't notice. Recently I noticed Deeko napkins increase the thickness of their 1 ply napkins by 20%. That's nice, I thought, until I realized they had decreased the pack size by 25% from 200 to 150 napkins. And they also had the cheek to increase the price by 49% from $3.50 to $5.20 I sent them an email & the reply was 'We'll pass on your feedback' We all need to stand up & complain about this practice. It happened some years ago with Cadbury & they gave in to public pressure. Since then have gotten away with it again. What items have you seen that this has happened to, does it bother you & have you officially complained?

Making one angry is an excessive reaction. It is more likely that one will be annoyed. An important nuance. If one gets angry what is achieved? It is unfortunate that there is little that the consumer can do to change the behaviour of the manufacturer. You could change brands but will the replacement be of the same quality and will it continue to be available in the original size?

Of course they think that all consumers are stupid. The design of supermarkets and marketing techniques starts from the premise that consumers have the same level of cognition as the average farmyard chook, and very possibly an even shorter memory. The big grocery retailers in this country are amongst the highest world-wide in terms of profitability and the inexorable driving-down of value for consumers. The two mai...

I feel they think we are stupid, and will not notice at all. Now when they reduce my favourite chocolate bars in size and increase the price, that is below the belt!!!!

Yes if they downsize the product and we still pay the same price. So wrong

It is so freaking rude, especially when you are really limited in what products you can buy because of food allergies and they do this all the time. I notice it terribly with hubby's shampoo too - it went from 1L/$15 to 900ml, to 750ml and now it is 450ml and $20! Utterly ridiculous and profiteering at it's worst.

They do it because in this country they can get away with it. They know that they can rely on the apathy of most Australians. They know that consumer protection laws in this country have been slowly whittled away, so consooomers have little or no means of redress when they are screwed, not that all that many even notice. The white-anting of consumer protection laws in this country started when that friend of the wor...

I always observe the price per kilo or 100grams depending. Buy the best value for money. so if the product is still the best value they get away with it. But not if they are not. Not a woodduck.

I have stopped buying a lot of brand name products for that very reason. Quite happy to use genetic brands in their place.
