Do you support a zero alcohol level for drivers?

By Glenys . Created on 16 Feb, 2020
With so many drivers being caught over the limit, and some causing carnage on our roads, do you think it's time for a zero alcohol limit for drivers? Or will this not deter people who drink and drive?

I have lost 2 brothers on the road through no fault of their own. If you have zero alcohol limit it will NOT STOP the idiot drivers from drinking, all it will do it hinder the responsible drivers who maybe have a drink. For your information neither my husband or I drink. It is just we do not like the flavor.

Thanks Ellen for your message. First I want to say how devastating it would be to lose your brothers in this way and through no fault of their own. You of all people would know the pain that this causes everyday. I see where you are coming from as far as hindering responsible drivers as zero limit people will still drive. My thoughts are with you and your family on the losses you have born. Thanks for sharing a...

Thanks Kim for your message. I agree with what you say as my sister had this happen to her however on further investigation she was told not to take the medication prior to driving. I believe that some medications do have this on their packaging and perhaps pharmacists should make people aware of this. Thanks and take care. B.

Yes I do support it because innocent people become the victims due to drink driving.

Yes I do support it. Unfortunately people get the wrong idea of how much they are allowed and once they start cannot stop. This would put an end to death on the roads by drunk drivers but you also have the ones on their mobiles and drugs. At least this would be one element off the road.

I do support it. Some drivers think they drive better with a few drinks under the belt. There are so many options now for getting a safe way home, I think drinking should be zero.

You obviously do not live in the country. But, I agree that having a designated driver is not that hard most of the time. And most of the year it is possible to get a taxi within 30mins.

Drugs and mobile phone usage in carsand trucks are worse. Just put more cops on the roads 24/7 and police the law. If driving I never have more than 1 x 1/2 glass of wine. Add orange juice to make sure.

Mobile phone use is by far worse than drink driving however if commercial drivers are required to maintain a 0.0 limit for 24 hours prior to driving I feel it should apply across the board

yep, mobile phones are a real problem add them to a driver who has been drinking and your problem has now multiplied.
