Do you think we need to get rid of the COVID hotel quarantine system all together and have separate COVID FACILITIES in each state?

By Emily . Created on 16 May, 2021
For people returning overseas and being in a hotel room for 14 days with potentially the virus being airborne, it is a big risk, how about a facility like in Darwin, set up in EVERY state and territory?

The Government is only doing this to support their benefactors - i.e. large hotel chains who are paid huge amounts by both the Government and the people in detention.

I think you should be allowed to home quarantine if you live in Australia

Yes, i believe this kind of facility could be used for travellers and refugees instead of jail.

I would happily quarantine in a detention center (if that is what you mean by jail) for two weeks provided there was a TV and Internet Access. If there was a 'nicer' option with better facilities then of course that would be preferred (but not essential).

Hotel quarantine has proved to be problematical. Separate quarantine facilities in each state or Territory would be a much better way to go. However staffing of these facilities would need to be carefully considered.

I would like to see a centralised isolated location like Howard Springs. Just about every State has a disused Government facility.

Wise words Glenda - and this is so. either a Detention centre or a military facility or a unused mining camp that could be negotiated.

Until something better is set up this is all we have to try and combat the arrival of the virus. Victoria has now got an outbreak of the Indian Covid strain which is scary. To me the 14 day quarantine is not enough and how many times have they tested positive a week or so later. A quarantine station elsewhere where they can all go and all be complete separate from each other i.e. no air conditioning sharing etc. ...

Too many just get clearance to go overseas then come back. There has been proof of some who have come and gone more than once since the initial lockdown. Come on folks = rules for all.

The federal Government should have sole responsibility to build purpose built facilities in non city areas and only these to be used for quarantine as per Howard Springs.

They already have that responsibility under the constitution but have refused to act, preferring a rolling program of spin and marketing to hide their callous ineptitude. Maybe they are more concerned with money to buy the next election through pork barrelling and tax cuts for their backers, along with generous lashings of complete bullshit from the murdoch press.
