Have you or your family been through a cyclone in the last 10years?

This would be where you actually suffered damage or lost power. Not just rain and wind they are common and nothing out of the ordinary.

So glad I don't live in a cyclone zone. Apart from the fact that I can't handle heat & humidity, I definitely would not like to sit through a cyclone. Could do without the hailstorms though. Lost two cars in the last one. And while insurance does cover them, they were just old enough that I could not get anywhere near what they have cost to replace. Would not like to go through that with my house too!

Insurance lag is one of the big concerns in Kalbarri. It is quite dependent on tourism and lots of the accommodation is uninhabitable at the moment. So insurance company pays valuation of the building all good. But due to a small building boom and lack of tradies, there is a waiting list to actually get the building done and the costs are going up. Interesting - enjoyed watching 2 cyclones in Broome within a month. They are not as bad as the news states if people prepared properly - 250mm of rain and wind gusts well over 100kph

Yes and No. Yes preparation makes a considerable difference - we have a 5 mtre wide roller door which could easily have snapped if not properly braced. No the 100s of trees that went over or broke could only have been "saved" by pruning them down. Farmers are still removing them from the fences and paddocks, but prefer to have as many of them still in their original state when summer comes round.

Having just spent almost 70 hours without power thanks to the latest WA cyclone - I now realise how bad these things can be - and we lost nothing worse than our solar hotwater system and the contents of our fridge and freezer

Officially I live on the fringes of the cyclone zone. But that does not stop it from taking 10days (11-4-21 to 21-4-21) for the insurance company to get an assessor to decide what they will do about my hot water being off. Thank goodness it is not my roof. Which should of course be a higher priority.
