Current building requirements in the WEST require much more insulation than they used to. Which is good. More insulation, no airconditioner, great power savers.

When my husband and I moved here from Canada we insulated all the walls of our home as it was being built. We also insulated around the bathtub

I would do the same as Glen, Hebel, R6 roof and rockwall batts and at least double glazed windows, I would also make my sulfite or roof overhang at least 900mm wide. My garden would also be designed to stop early morning and late afternoon summer sun. I would cover the roof in solar panels as the panels stop direct sun on the roof tiles. I would be looking for as much summer shade I can get. Windows would be cas...

Absolutely - a Hebel home with R6 roof batts & Rockwool wall batts with proper double glazed windows & hydronic heating - that's where all my budget would go.

Definitely! People don't realise let alone wanting to pay the extra $$$$ for installation. I know that I've failed twice when building my own home and only having the "necessaries" where needed.
