As with all government support mechanisms there has to be a cease date. Prior to the pandemic there was consistent bleating about government debt. Now, who cares about the inherited debt?
Covid is here to stay in one form or another. Many people have received well over their standard pay rate during the initial Covid lockdowns so maybe the extra should have been considered a windfall and something for that rainy day. I received nothing as a casual who had been with the company only 6 months. Work is available if your prepared to change your perception of what your worth and what else you can do.
I was initially "overpaid" I have been with the company over 20yrs. But do not work very many hours. Now I am down to being paid my regular income rate pre Covid. Yes the money will help towards retirement which looks like coming a little early.
As a job keeper reciprient (sic) I am very grateful to all the taxpayers who have been supporting me. But I know the country can not afford to continue in this way. Time to get jobs that can be done in the current climate. Put the money towards developing and training people for the jobs of now and the future. Stop paying people to do nothing.
