Should people that have been receiving New start before 2020 get the extra $550 per fortnight as they are not working an living off Centrelink all ready

Why should people who have been getting Newstart way before the covid19 virus hit an affected the actual work force be getting the extra $550 it should only go to the people affected that want to work but can’t during this unprecedented time!

I depends, not all people on New Start choose not to work. I have suffered a rare neurological illness which has left me with chronic nerve pain, mobility issues then also 5 weeks ago received a pace-maker for another chronic illness. I was knocked back on the disability pension as my conditions, still after 6 years are not stable and too rare to compare. So Centrelink put me on the Newstart Allowance , even though...

It really depends on their personal circumstances, my fiancé has worked all his life, got sick last October and can’t work anymore. He worked full time hours, but was employed casual, so he received nothing when he physically couldn’t work anymore. Your rant is fully understandable and acceptable. The concern of the federal government is the state of the economy, as that is their gauge on their performance as a government (and getting re-elected). HOW they achieve that is irrelevant!
