Store refunds, do you think this is reasonable?

By Tracy . Created on 09 Jul, 2020
My husband purchases an electric blanket online from one of our larger department stores for his mother and it takes over an hour to heat and when it does, its colder than the one she replacing, is it reasonable to be told to wait an hour in store whilst the returns lady tests it?

No if you take the product back with a problem and it is still in perfect condition then they should refund and then it should be sent for testing. I actually bought a double bed electric blanket and paid for same at a large store but as I did not need it till the following winter did not check it. When I opened the box it was a single fitted blanket and absolutely useless to me but it was too late to take back ac...

Have had similar things happen, bought something at end of season sale. Did not go to use for 6 months - problem - not what it should have been - not returnable. I do however get the stores perspective, it is not their fault we stuck it in a cupboard without checking.

Yes agree but it is something we should all be aware of to check. I am much more careful these days.

If it is the first time they have had this complaint, they would need to check if it is just yours or the whole batch. No good to auto replace it, if you get home and it's the whole batch. But they should explain that.

As you say. They need to check the one that is returned, and the replacement one. To make sure they are not going to have the same complaint again with the 2nd one, as that would be the wrong thing for them to be doing.

I don't think I would be buying another one of the same brand to be honest.

I understand the store has to verify things, but waiting an hour is excessive

It is fair that they can confirm your explaination of why you are returning it. 1hr may be a bit longer than necessary, but it would depend on factors that only you and the store can know.

Anytime I've had an electrical item that wasn't performing well I just had to provide the receipt and they offered me a refund or replacement. Both Harvey Norman and Kmart did that for me. I thought that was the norm?

I didn't know larger department stores employed qualified Electricians on their Returns Desk...

well...in this covid 19 world ...i think it is pretty reasonable ...however if the clerk is not busy...an hour is just too much to be testing electric blanket ...coz you only plug it in and then it heats up in 20 minutes i guess ...
