What should the penalty be for texting and driving?

Are we tough enough for two lenient on people that use their phones while driving? What should be the consequence?

Prevalent offences require escalating penalties.

First offence: confiscation of phone - licence suspended 3 months.

Second offence: loss of licence for 3 years.

Its already a fine and points so maybe a heavier fine and possibly a community order for those who are caught more than once. I see the P platers on their phones all the time and around school areas and they aren't even watching the road. Seriously I wish I could report them but I cant use my phone whilst driving. :-{

Talking on the phone I can handle. But texting shits me. They should have their phones taken off them for a week like they impounding your car when you get caught driving with no license.

I say do the crime and then do the time. Loss of licence is the surest way to educate the failure to recognise the need for sturner road safety.
