Who should Australia be closer allies with?

By paletendril . Created on 22 Aug, 2019
With lots of discussion about increasing friction in the Oceanic region, should Australia focus their energies on strengthening existing alliances with the United States, focus more on the relationship with China or strengthen our relationship with our Kiwi neighbours?

NZ or neutrality.

We should be over the constant expectation of war, or is humanity not striving for a peaceful existence?

Gotta say I love your optimism Hans but while we have lunatics on power across the world and terrorist cells active against the west, you're just dreaming of a utopia we'll never see.

Australia's long term strategic alliance with the USA has strengthened our relationship and the Sth East Asian location enforces Australia's influence in the region.

We should be close to New Zealand as they are neighbours, and we have a good history with them as well. The other two only have money, in which that is good but money is not what we need all the time. It a friend that will be there for us at all time. Not just when it suits them.

New Zealand, a country bearing the brand of unity and self worth to the world at the moment. USA to selfish at the moment and the fact that those two countries USA & China are so big headed show their complete disregard for other humans. The USA stance in the world has diminished and it would take a lot of hardwork to come back from all this damage caused by the German Heritaged Trump.

Thanks X for your message. Very well said and thought out and I couldn't agree more. The sad part is, I believe, that Trump will get back in. Go figure. Take care. B.

I picked New Zealand because they are closer to us, they are taking a stand on gun laws and we don't have to worry about a trade war with them. China and America are affecting our economy by their trade war and we are caught in the middle. It is because of Donald Trump that all this is happening. He needs to be ousted as President because his policies are terrible, he is a racist and he has caused so much tr...

I agree that the Kiwi political discourse is more palatable ATM but if push came to shove, if we were to find ourselves at the threat of war, I'd want more muscle by our side. We just got to remember Trump is a temporary problem, sanity will prevail eventually.

I agree with you Nick, if war is a threat especially Nuclear weapons, I would USA behind us. The Chinese I would not trust because they already have the deeds to our country and we need to get them back as soon as possible but I would rather muscle too. I do agree we need to protect Australia.

Agree with this and thanks for your message Nick. As far as power it is the US. I do think that sanity will prevail once Trump is out. Take care. B.
