Will the ban on 'news' articles on Facebook in Australia, effective today, change your usage of Facebook?

By Sam . Created on 17 Feb, 2021
Facebook have banned and/or deleted content from all Australian new media outlets and a number of official Government feeds (e.g. ACT Health) effective 6am today. Will you continue to use Facebook without reliable news media content or will this encourage you to take the plunge and stop utilising the social media giant?

I will continue to use Facebook as much as I did before the ban.

I will continue to use Facebook as much as I did before the ban.

I will not use Facebook as much as I used to now that it doesn't include mainstream Australian news.

FACEBOOK HAS EVERY RIGHT TO CHOOSE WHAT THEY WANNA DO .....THEY ARE NOT NEWSCENTER . ...THEY ARE THERE FOR SOCIAL PURPOSES AND IT IS THEIR MEMBERS WHO ARE SHARING LINKS OF THE NEWS ............SO WHY LET THEM PAY?

They are even stopping voluntary emergency service announcements and warnings including locations of bushfires, flooding, road blockages from fallen trees etc. so people avoid the areas. Some get approval from Government Departments who encourage them to put warnings on facebook.

I use it so little that I just do not care. I never even considered Facebook as a source of reliable news.

Given that Facebook is not a necessary feature in my existence I will not change my habits. I prefer direct sources. There are compilation apps that allow me to source news from multiple suppliers. These sources have less scope for corruption and misinformation as there is editorial oversight. Facebook can effectively endorse harmful content as accurate information.
