Would you buy a separate flat or fitted sheet if the price were comparable to sheet sets?

By Annette . Created on 05 Jan, 2021
Fitted sheets (the sheet you lie on) wear out faster than flat "top" sheets or pillowcases. But buying one separate flat or fitted sheet is often more expensive than buying both as a sheet set with pillowcases. Would you prefer to replace that worn-out bottom sheet if it were just as cheap as buying a full sheet set?

I only buy fitted sheets, as i can't bear the sheets to be tucked in and my feet suffer if they are and as I only use a doona and no cover or a light blanket, then buying sheet sets are irrelevant.

The elastic does not last as it used to so have bought quite a few fitted sheets to replace them. Price is just something you have to wear so to speak. I wish someone would make decent elastic again. It costs $30 to have it replaced at the Dry Cleaners.

I have been known to buy 2 identical sets, then when the bottom sheets wear out I can use one top sheep for the bottom and one for the top. Unfortunately, they are now making the top sheet considerably shorter than they used to, so they do not tuck under at the bottom of the bed.

Thanks for your message Joyce and I too have been known to do this many years ago. I found the same as regard to the top sheet becoming shorter. Maybe the manufacturer's were on to us. lol. Take care. B.

Have also noticed that we are being "shortchanged" in the length dept with our sheets.

I like to buy separate because I like to have a King size top sheet on my Queen sized bed as then I have more chance of my husband not stealing it all!

Happy New Year Kerrie. I did laugh when I read this as we have a king size bed and I do find that even though I buy king size for the top it is still 'stolen' by hubby. Take care. B.
